NO LIMIT

“My mouth shall tell of Your righteousness and Your salvation all the day, for I do not know their limits. I will go in the strength of the Lord God; I will make mention of Your righteousness, of Yours only” (Psalm 71:15).

Abram stood under a cloudless sky.  As he looked up, glittering stars lit up the night, stretching as far as he could see. No matter where he looked, all he could see were stars upon stars.  And God said, “Look up toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them.” And He said to Him, “So shall your descendents be.” And Abram believed the Lord, and it was “accounted to him for righteousness” (Genesis 15:5,6).

When Abram did as God said, he knew he couldn’t count those stars. They were “beyond measure” or “beyond number.”  And though he couldn’t take that all in and understand the abundance of God’s promise, he still believed.

“He did not weaken in faith when he considered his own body, which was as good as dead because he was about 100 years old, or when he considered the barrenness of Sarah’s womb” (Romans 4:19, NRS). “He did not waver at the promise through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God” (Romans 4:20, NKJ). Abram couldn’t comprehend God’s gift. He didn’t know how it could happen, but his faith stretched out and met God’s Word and he believed.

The magnitude of God’s love can’t really be measured. We may believe it, receive it and experience it for ourselves. We may rejoice in what God has done on Calvary’s cross and in what He’s doing in our life. But it is still only the beginning of what God can do and will do as we cooperate with Him.

For “of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace” (John 1:16). “We may draw upon His fullness, and receive of that grace which has no limit” (Gospel Workers, pg. 19). Like the promise to Abram, God’s grace is the power to bring new life—to bring strength out of weakness, hope out of despair, peace out of turmoil. His grace is able to change our sinful hearts—not merely by fixing this or that bad habit—but by changing us completely, so we think God’s thoughts, breathe His Spirit, and do His will.

“Continual devotion establishes so close a relation between Jesus and His disciple that the Christian becomes like Him in mind and character. He will have clearer and broader views, his discernment will be more penetrative, his judgment better balanced. He is enabled to bear much fruit to the glory of God” (From Heaven with Love, pg. 160).

There is absolutely no limit to what we can do when we link our life with God. But we must reach out for it all! We ask for so little when we can have so much! The Spirit of God awaits our demand and reception. The riches of Heaven can be ours. The same power that we see in the life of Jesus can be ours. We may have His faith, His courage, His strength, His intimacy with the Father. His life can be ours. For there is absolutely no limit to God’s grace if we will abide in His love morning, noon and night.

“Throw the windows of [your] soul wide open heavenward and let the sunshine of Christ’s righteousness in. Morning, noon and night your hearts may be filled with the bright rays of heaven’s light” (In Heavenly Places, pg. 275).

And remember—“He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it” (1 Thessalonians 5:24). Look up into the heavens, believe God’s promises and cooperate with Him. And the unlimitable love of the Savior will fill you up!
